On August 28 & 29, the 10th Anniversary of Tee Up for Tots, presented by Rexall, raised over $2 million for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. The event was kicked off with Premier Stelmach's announcement of $18 million in government funding towards the Stollery Children's Hospital emergency expansion. The Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation has committed to raising $5 million for the $23 million project.

"The government remains committed to improving Alberta's health care system," said Premier Ed Stelmach. "Alberta's growing population and our current baby boom have increased the number of visits through the Stollery emergency department, and this expansion of emergency services will help to improve the overall health care experience for all patients."

All funds raised at Tee Up For Tots 2009 will go to the emergency expansion at the Stollery Children's Hospital. Since its inception ten years ago, event organizers and hosts Sam Abouhassan and Kevin Lowe have watched a legacy of giving being built. To date, Tee Up For Tots has raised over $6 million in support of sick and injured children.

Daryl Katz, Chairman of the Katz Group and Edmonton Oilers owner, made a surprise phone call to donate $500,000 in honour of Sam and Kevin and have an area in the new emergency named after them. He hoped the government would match it and Premier Stelmach has promised they will.

"Daryl's donation and all funds raised at Tee Up For Tots will have a significant impact at the Stollery; ensuring children have access to the best emergency care possible, when they need it most."
